Dental Emergency on the Weekend? See a Dentist Open Saturdays and Sundays in Bayside
Uh, oh. You have a dental emergency on your hands and it’s the weekend. What should you do? If you have a dentist who sees patients on weekends, you can skip the emergency room.

Having any sort of emergency on the weekends can really derail your plans. When it’s a dental emergency, you're not just talking about some water coming from a broken pipe or your car not starting.

A dental emergency can mean you or a loved one is in a lot of pain, but the idea of going to the ER is really not how you wanted to spend your day off.

At Bayside Dental Arts in Queens, New York, Dr. Andrey Ilyabayev and our team know that dental issues don’t always wait for the work week. That’s why we offer weekend emergency dental services.

Common dental emergencies

Some of the most common dental emergencies you might encounter on a weekend include:

A toothache

You could have a toothache that starts up suddenly, or maybe it was lurking through the week but you were ignoring it until Saturday morning when it flared up badly.

An abscess

Swelling and nasty discharge from around a tooth can mean a tooth or gum abscess that needs immediate attention in case of infection.

A cracked molar

Cracking a tooth during Saturday brunch means you need a dentist immediately to clean, repair, and seal off the tooth to keep bacteria out while a restoration is being fabricated.

A knocked-out tooth

Whoops. That game of family softball got out of control and now Timmy is holding a tooth in his hand. Don’t panic: A weekend emergency dentist can fix it back in place.

Why you need an emergency dentist

Leaving a dental emergency until Monday or waiting it out in a busy ER reception area aren’t great choices. In the first case, you could end up with an infection or worsened damage. In the second, you could end up not being seen for hours while being exposed to all kinds of sickness.

When your dentist offers emergency weekend hours, you can just make a call and get seen as quickly as possible, sidestepping the pain and hassle of other options.

What to do if you’ve knocked out a tooth

Probably the dental emergency that causes the most acute pain and worry is a knocked-out tooth. Here’s what to do before heading to the emergency dentist:

Don’t panic

A knocked-out adult tooth or even a baby one not ready to come out yet isn’t the end of the world. We can likely put it back in place.

Stop the bleeding

Press a firm pack of gauze into the cavity and hold it with a clenched jaw to stop the bleeding. A damp teabag works well, too.

Find the tooth

Find the tooth and rinse it gently in warm water to remove any debris. Don’t scrub or rub the tooth or use a strong spray of water. We take care of the rest.

Store the tooth

Put the tooth in a small capped container of milk and bring it with you to our office. From there, we’ll confirm whether we can replace it and do the procedure in our office.
